The health, safety and welfare of our equine athletes does not end at the finish line, and retirement and aftercare are critical components to the racing industry.
Aftercare is the safe placement of racehorses after their careers as racehorse are completed. Some horses might retire to the breeding shed or broodmare bands, while others are retrained for second careers.
Alberta Thoroughbred Aftercare is dedicated to providing retired racehorses a safe haven, rehabilitation and retraining for placement into safe, caring homes.
